Alternative Spring Break Immakolee Friendship House Immakolee, FL Sat, March 25 - Sat, April 1 The Immokalee Friendship House provides a vital service to the homeless in this rural farming community. It opened its doors in June of 1989, and since then has provided an average of 660 shelter nights and 1,320 meals each month to the homeless. To date, over 1,000 families and 2,000 men have called the shelter home. Participants will have the chance to experience all aspects of running a homeless shelter such as intakes, cooking, laundry, cleaning, painting, and repairs. There will also be addition volunteer opportunities at soup kitchens, day cares, schools, health clinics, and parks. In addition, there will be some leisure time to enjoy southern Florida. Thursday, November 10^th, 6PM Information Session ASB information session held at the Myers Hall Tutor Lounge. Come out for dinner and learn about the Alternative Spring Break Trips! Wedensday, November 23^th First Round of Applications Due!!! Make sure to get your application to the Office of Campus Activities located at Creese 215. Download your application here. After Thanksgiving ASB Applications Processed Find out whether or not you will be going on the trip! Early December Participants Notified of Selection Make sure to pay the trip fee of $115, preferrably in cash, otherwise in a check made out to Gamma Sigma Sigma. This money will be directly applied to the trip, and cash will make it easier to buy things like supplies and groceries such that check requests will not be necessary. TBA Pre-Trip Meeting When we meet, we can go over specifics such as what to bring, how much money you need (though you won't need a lot), exactly when we will be leaving, and more details of what we will be doing in Immakolee.
